Hello everybody, and welcome to the start of a new decade. As we’ve approached the end of the 2010s, I’ve reflected a lot on everything that’s come from the decade. One such thing is all of the great movies that I’ve watched. See, I started to seriously get into film around 2009, which is when I started writing movie reviews as a hobby. Since then, I’ve seen well over 1000 movies. I love this art form, and the whole reason I launched this website is to share that love with others.

I’ve seen many great “top movies of ‘such and such'” lists, and I always thought it would be fun to take a crack at it myself. Since I’ve had the fortune of watching so many great movies from this decade, I thought it would be a great idea to share what my favorite movies from the past 10 years were.

I’ve constructed this list by looking at what my top 10 movies were from each year this decade, and combining them all into a “top 100 movies” list. So, throughout this list, you will find 10 movies from each year, arranged in the best order that I can manage.

I have to admit, it was really hard to rank some of these, so I want to be clear right off the bat that some of the placements could easily be interchangeable with each other. It’s probable that even in another year I’ll feel differently about where I ranked some of the movies. For the most part, I consider a lot of these movies to be on a pretty even playing field. They are all movies that I gave at least a 9/10 score to when I first watched them. So, I hope no one gets upset at one movie being ranked higher than another, because for me any movie that’s on this list is an amazing feat.

And so, I’d like to lay down some ground rules before we get started here. First, I want it to be known that I am just one person, creating a list of my own personal favorites. I have never reviewed movies as a job, and so it’s not something I get paid to do. While this is good in the sense that I can guarantee you that I’m not being paid off to put any particular movie on the list, the downside is that this list is limited only to the movies that I’ve seen. I’ve tried to see as many of the great movies from this decade that I can, but I know that there are plenty that I still have yet to see. So, if you see that a movie you love isn’t on the list, it’s entirely possible that I just haven’t seen it. I wish I could see every movie that comes out, but it’s just not doable for me.

On a similar note, I am a person with set interests. I’m more likely to watch a superhero, comedy, or horror movie over a romance, war, or historical movie. I don’t try to limit myself with what movies I watch, but I definitely have my biases, just like anyone else. As such, I don’t want it to be a surprise to anyone that you’re going to see a lot of superhero movies on this list, for example. Cultural context also plays a part in this, since something like the superhero genre is more popular than it ever has been before, and so a lot of movies in that genre have been released in this decade in comparison to previous decades. But regardless, I want it to be known that this list is a victim of both personal bias and what kinds of movies have been released most this decade.

Lastly, please try not to be rude about my picks. People have a tendency to get really defensive about these sorts of things, and so I’m not trying to offend anyone by excluding a movie or ranking something higher than you think it deserves. Like I said, this is a list of my 100 favorite movies from the 2010s, which isn’t likely going to overlap with what your list would look like. Feel free to mention if you disagree with me on anything or think that there’s a movie not on here that should be, but also try not to get too upset that your tastes might be different than mine.

With all of that out of the way, let’s get started. Over the next week, I’m going to release this list in five parts. I’ll be breaking them down 20 movies at a time, with my #100-81 picks starting on Monday, and ending with my #20-1 picks on Friday.

To hold you over until then, I’ll give one honorable mention from each year that didn’t quite make the cut, but that I still think is an amazing movie from that year:

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

The Crazies (2010)

Rango (2011)

The Cabin in the Woods (2012)

Lone Survivor (2013)

How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014)

Spy (2015)

The Conjuring 2 (2016)

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Creed II (2018)

Paddleton (2019)

And with that, I hope that you enjoy this list!
