One of the reasons I’m talking about this web series to begin with is that I’m a huge fan of the stars of it. Lonely and Horny is created by Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld, who were the stars and creators of Collegehumor’s popular web series, Jake and Amir. The duo ended Jake and Amir in 2015 to pursue their own endeavors, and Lonely and Horny was the first big project they made after leaving Collegehumor. The humor is very similar to Jake and Amir, so if you were a fan of that, you might enjoy this too.

Basically, Amir plays a character named Ruby Jade, who is desperate for sex. Ruby is an unbearable asshole, and so whenever he attempts to talk to a woman, he always winds up screwing it up in the end. Because of this, he takes a class on how to pick up girls, led by Jake’s character Josh. Ruby looks to Josh as his mentor, but Josh can clearly see that Ruby’s problem is his personality. So, the show revolves around Ruby’s exploits of trying to get laid.

It’s a simple premise, but it works. The season has 10 episodes that are 8-10 minutes each, which comes to the length of a feature-length film. Each episode has some sort of wacky concept that Ruby is involved in. I found the humor to be really on-point here, and while some may complain that the show is too similar to Jake and Amir, I found that they still excelled at making this kind of comedy work. It may not be for everyone, but I think it’s really funny.
