I recently rewatched Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, and so I decided to dig up my review of the movie to share it. However, when I looked for it, I discovered that I’ve never actually written a review of the movie. This is crazy to me, because I’ve seen Walk Hard tons of times, and I consider it to be one of my favorite comedies of all time.

Walk Hard is a fake biopic about a fictional music star named Dewey Cox. The movie chronicles his entire life, growing up as a kid in the 40s, becoming a music star in the 50s, suffering through relationship and drug problems in the 60s and 70s, and then the rest of his life growing into maturity as an old man. The movie heavily parodies Walk the Line, which was the 2005 biopic of Johnny Cash’s life. You don’t need to see that movie to appreciate the humor in Walk Hard, but it definitely adds an additional fun element to it if you have.

The movie is just a genius representation of what it was like to be a star during that time period of music. It ends up making tons of references to stars of the time, and even goes as far as to have actors playing caricatures of some of the people of the time, such as Elvis Presley and The Beatles. It also just tackles its subject matter in the funniest way possible, such as showing Dewey’s drug problem.

For anyone that’s into musical comedies, Walk Hard is a must. Like I said, this is one of my favorite comedies of all time. I basically know this movie by heart at this point, and quote it constantly. I find it to be relentlessly rewatchable, and I laugh at it just as hard every single time. I’ll admit that you need to be a fan of this style of comedy, but for anyone that likes movies like Anchorman, Talladega Nights, or Step Brothers, you will absolutely love Walk Hard. I don’t even really hear this movie talked about as much anymore, so I definitely recommend checking it out so that it doesn’t pass you by.
