I’m going to make this review a simple one for everybody. I’m just going to come out and say it that I did not like The Grapes of Wrath at all. This isn’t even coming from a place of hating old black-and-white movies or anything like that. I’ve loved many movies of this era, I just think that The Grapes of Wrath is a really bad movie. This is supposedly blasphemy, since the movie has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and is largely considered to be one of the best movies of all time by a lot of people. I just don’t see it myself, and so maybe it just wasn’t my thing.

The movie takes place during the Great Depression, and focuses on the Joad family. This family is forced from their farm, and so they must travel the country in search of work. Obvious struggles ensue. This is the basic gist of the movie, so if this kind of thing appeals to you, then maybe you would want to check it out. I’ll admit that this kind of premise doesn’t grab me to begin with, so maybe I was just the wrong audience for this. I can accept that. But I’m also not going to praise a movie I didn’t like.

Look, I’m not going to act like The Grapes of Wrath is one of the worst movies ever made or anything. It’s competently made and acted and everything, so it is at least watchable. The main problem for me was that it just bored me to tears. The worst crime of any piece of entertainment for me is that I can’t get invested in it, and that’s what happened here. I wanted nothing more than for the movie to be over the whole time I was watching it. I didn’t care what was going on, and almost nothing was interesting the entire time. I don’t feel like I’m the best person to review a movie like this, though, since it’s really not my thing. Plus, I feel like I wasted over two hours watching the movie, so I’d rather not waste any more time reviewing it. There are some old movies I can recommend, but The Grapes of Wrath isn’t one of them.
