Nightcrawler is a truly amazing story of a modern day psychopath, and I think one that will be remembered years down the line from those that have seen it. The film has gotten a lot of recognition lately because many people feel that lead actor Jake Gyllenhaal was snubbed by the Oscars for not being nominated for Best Actor, a sentiment which I can completely agree with.

Gyllenhaal plays Lou Bloom, a man that’s desperate for work. After being rejected for jobs, he decides to take up his own line of work by becoming a freelance video recorder of breaking news. Lou starts to do whatever he needs to do to get good shots of the crimes he’s trying to film, and starts to go into illegal territory.

Lou goes from simply getting too close to the crime scene to pretty much causing them throughout the movie, and it gets to be dangerously exciting for the audience. The main draw to the movie is seeing Jake Gyllenhaal play this absolute psycho that will do such terrible things just to get footage for the news. There’s little else to say other than if that’s the kind of thing that sounds interesting to you, and you just want to see an amazing performance of Gyllenhaal playing a psycho, then I highly recommend Nightcrawler. Really amazing movie.
