I’ll be honest, I was a little concerned about season 6 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. After season 5 of the show concluded, Fox cancelled it, much to my dismay. However, NBC decided to pick the show up, and so season 6 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine moved the show to a new network. I feel like when there’s changes for a show behind the scenes, you run the risk of it not being as good as it was before. This was concerning to me, because Brooklyn Nine-Nine is honestly my favorite comedy on TV right now. However, I’m happy to say that my fears have been subdued, as season 6 is every bit as good as previous seasons.

Season 6 picks up not long after season 5, with Jake and Amy now being newlyweds. We also finally get to find out that Holt did not get the commissioner’s job, and so he’s staying with the 99. After this, there isn’t really that much of a through-line for the season in terms of story. However, the show does continue to provide new and unique ideas for episodes, and so we get to continue seeing these characters in crazy situations. I was worried about the show changing under new management, but the creativity is definitely still there.

The most disappointing thing about season 6 is unfortunately out of the showrunners’ control. A few episodes into the season, Gina Linetti reveals that she’s leaving the 99 to pursue other career aspirations. This was so upsetting to me, because Gina has been my favorite character throughout the whole series. I was so upset about this because I wanted to get more Gina one-liners, but unfortunately Chelsea Peretti decided to leave the show here. It’s unfortunate to see her go, but at least the rest of the cast helps pick up the slack and crank up what makes their characters great.

Other than that, I don’t have much else to say about this season. Every year, all I really have to say is…this show is amazing, and you should be watching it. I’ve never felt like this show’s gotten the love it deserves, but anyone that does watch it can attest to how great it is. It’s consistently funny and always delivers amazing episode after amazing episode. This cast has always played off each other really well, and the writing behind their characters is always handled spectacularly. Season 6 is a bit of a shorter season than usual with only 18 episodes instead of the usual 22, but it’s still every bit as funny as it’s been before. Enjoy this new season if you’re a fan, and watch the show if you haven’t. You won’t regret it.
