It’s hard to write a review for something like Brooklyn Nine-Nine when it’s five seasons deep. I can tell you that the show is still really funny and is worth watching, but I’ve already hammered that home in my reviews of the first four seasons. Perhaps the thing that’s so great is that five seasons in, Brooklyn Nine-Nine has managed to stay as consistently fun as it was in the first season. With another 22 episode season under its belt, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is still one of the funniest shows on TV right now.

I don’t want to spoil anything specific, but a lot of the season revolves around two main storylines. The one sees Captain Holt going for commissioner. This isn’t exactly the most exciting storyline, but they manage to make it fun. The second is that there’s a wedding being planned between two of the characters (fans of the show will likely know who I’m referring to, but I don’t want to spoil it for those who don’t). So, a lot of the episodes in the season revolve around that, such as choosing a venue, having the bachelor(ette) parties, etc. This is definitely the highlight of the season, and the thing that sets it apart from the previous ones. I love all of the ways that storyline goes, and I shipped it so hard the whole time. I should mention that Gina isn’t in the first half of the season. Chelsea Peretti was having a baby, so they wrote that into Gina’s character while she was away. Everyone else does have their own stuff going on here and there, but these stories are usually a much smaller focus than the main things going on.

I do feel like Brooklyn Nine-Nine peaked in its second and third seasons, with those two being the best the show’s ever been. However, the series as a whole has remained consistently funny, and season 5 is no exception to that. It’s just as entertaining and funny as the first four seasons were, so it’s still worth watching (which, when it comes down to it, is all you really need to know). I’m going to be interested to see the future of Brooklyn Nine-Nine from here, because it’s going to be different from here. Fox actually canceled the show after this season, but NBC picked it up the next day for a shorter, 13-episode season. Aside from the length of the season, I’m not sure if season 6 will be different with a change of network. I can only hope that it stays as funny as it’s always been, because this show has been one of my favorite comedies for five years now.
