Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure is one of those movies that I’ve been meaning to watch for a long time now, but just never quite got around to it. So, with Bill & Ted 3 being just around the corner, I figured what better time to watch it than now. I’m so glad I took the time to watch this, because Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure is a movie that reminds me of a simpler time for films, where random movies with crazy concepts would just come out and thrive.

Bill and Ted are your typical wild duo, in the same vein as other famous pairs like Wayne and Garth, or Jay and Silent Bob. They are two high school boys who just want to be in a band together. The problem is that they’re not very bright, and so Ted’s dad ends up threatening to send Ted to military school, which would break up the duo. Bill and Ted realize that they need to ace their oral report for their history class in order to pass, which could convince Ted’s dad to let him stay. Luckily, time travelers from the future are here to help, and so Bill and Ted go on an adventure through time, gather famous figures from different periods of history, so that they can bring them to the present and ace their history report.

It’s the kind of concept that’s absolutely insane, but it just works so well. First of all, there’s the fun aspect that people from the future need Bill and Ted to ace their history report, since apparently the future of the world depends on it. But the most fun thing about all of this is just seeing these two clueless guys interacting with famous people from history.

I laughed so much throughout this movie, and so I think it’s still worth watching today. You just don’t see this kind of movie enough these days, and so it’s nice to go back and just watch a random movie from the 80s every now and then. For modern viewers it’s also really endearing to see Keanu Reeves in such an early role, where he’s just playing a dumb teenager. If these kinds of off-the-wall comedies are your thing, I highly recommend checking out Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
