Okay, so after the success of Anchorman, Judd Apatow comes out with this great little gem. This is the first (one of only three, the other two being Knocked Up and Funny People) movie that Apatow directed, wrote, and produced. He’s usually just the producer. Still, the man makes genius movies, and The 40 Year Old Virgin is no exception.

The title of the movie should give a good idea of what the plot is about. Basically, we have Andy Stitzer (played by Steve Carell), who we find is 40 years old and has still not had sex. He starts hanging out with some people from work, David (played by Paul Rudd), Jay (played by Romany Malco), and Cal (played by Seth Rogen), and when they find this out they keep trying to push and push Andy to finally do it. Andy finds the pressure of it all building up after a while, though, because he meets a single mother, Trish (played by Catherine Keener), who he soon falls in love with and doesn’t want to screw up with because of his lack of sexual experience.

This is one of those comedies where the simple lines of dialogue in the many conversations is what makes it funny. The things these guys talk about is just absolutely hilarious. Although not a lot of the lines are completely memorable, they’re still great to hear when you watch the movie.

All around, The 40 Year Old Virgin is pretty sweet. It has all the good things you’d expect…good acting, good characters, hilarious dialogue. Even though it’s not the complete best of its kind, The 40 Year Old Virgin is really great, and I think Judd Apatow pulled out an awesome movie here.
