Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is a movie that I’m sure most people will only watch because of the talent involved. This was a movie that just randomly popped up under the new releases in Netflix for me, and I figured I’d give it a shot since I like Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams. It’s just strange, though, because these actors are popular with American audiences, but Eurovision is popular with European audiences, so it’s hard to know who this movie is really for.

The movie centers on the duo of Lars and Sigrit, who form a band named Fire Saga. Their dream has always been to win the Eurovision Song Contest, and this has been the driving force for them for as long as they can remember. They’ve never gotten very far with their band, but some seemingly random occurrences end up giving them the chance to compete in Eurovision. Too bad they’re not very talented.

Eurovision Song Contest ends up in that weird in-between category for me. I never really hated the movie, but I also never truly enjoyed it either. It has its better and worse parts, but it was never to the extremes of laughing my ass off or groaning with how bad it is. As a 2 hour movie, I think it definitely ends up being way too long, but other than that this just felt like a case of it simply not being up my alley. It ends up being in the same category as something like The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, where it’s just a weird movie that I’ll probably never think about again. I don’t regret watching it, but I also don’t think I’ll ever have the desire to watch it again. Like I said, I’m not sure who the target audience is supposed to be for this, which makes it a difficult movie to give a recommendation for. I don’t think this is a movie that you should definitely stay away from, because if it’s your type of humor then I think you’ll enjoy it. I just never really got that into it. I was enjoying myself about half of the time, which is why I didn’t end up hating it, but the other half it just didn’t really do it for me.
