This is absolutely one of my favorite comedies of all time, no doubt. Clerks is the first movie in a series of movies that takes place in a universe created by director Kevin Smith. Although none of the movies are connected in plot, they feature some recurring characters. Clerks is Kevin Smith’s first movie, and it’s a damn good one.

The funny thing about Clerks is that there really isn’t a plot to the movie. We’re shown a regular day in the life of store clerks Dante (played by Brian O’Halloran) and Randal (played by Jeff Anderson). Dante is called into work on his day off, and so from there on he just hangs out with his friend Randal at the Quick Stop store. All they do is annoy customers, talk about things, and do crazy stuff like play hockey on the store roof.

There is some plot to the movie, but not much. We see the struggles going on in the life of Dante, such as him trying to fix his relationship with an ex-girlfriend, Caitlin (played by Lisa Spoonhauer), while trying to keep things steady with his current girlfriend, Veronica (played by Marilyn Ghigliotti). As Dante has to put up with all the crap he deals with throughout the day, he constantly complains about how he isn’t even supposed to be there that day.

Since there’s not really much actual events that happen, the movie relies on its witty dialogue to make it humorous. And believe me, it’s filled with it. From the crazy conversations Dante and Randal have to the kind of stuff that the customers say, we hear it all.

I really think that everything about the movie is excellent. It’s very funny, and the jokes are delivered great by the terrific actors that say them. One thing that sometimes turns a lot of people off from the movie is the fact that it’s in black and white. The only reason it is is because it was Kevin Smith’s first movie, and he had a very low budget to work with, so it had to be in black and white.

In my opinion, this movie is a classic in the comedy genre. It’s so worth watching, as it’s sure to give you a great time. Hell, all of Kevin Smith’s movies are worth watching. This type of humor is my kind of humor, and I absolutely love it.
