Blow the Man Down is a new movie that came out on Amazon Prime Video recently. New releases have been really scarce lately, and I saw that this one had some really good reviews, so I figured why not give it a try.

The movie starts with two sisters who are mourning the death of their mom. One of those sisters, Mary Beth, goes out to a bar and meets someone. She leaves with him, and starts to discover he’s a dangerous man, due to the gun, cocaine, and blood in the trunk of his car. She tries to get away from him, but the man gives chase, and so she ends up killing him out of fear. She tells her sister Priscilla what happened, and the two of them panic about what to do. They end up deciding to dispose of the body instead of calling the cops, and from here they find themselves entangled in a larger tale while trying to cover up the murder.

I don’t really have a lot to say about Blow the Man Down because I liked it, but I didn’t really love it. I don’t have many strong feelings towards it one way or another. I thought that the score was exceptional and very tense, but everything else in the movie felt pretty standard to me. There were some moments that were resonating with me, but others that I just kind of went through the motions with. I think this is a good movie, but I also don’t think it deserves the 99% critic score it has on Rotten Tomatoes. I will say that I think it’s worth watching if you’re looking for an indy thriller, but I don’t think it’s a must-see, so don’t bother if you have to go out of your way to watch it. It was a worthwhile journey, but I don’t think I’ll be thinking about this movie much in the future.
