Season 2 of M*A*S*H doesn’t exactly make for an exciting review. I got to go in-depth with what M*A*S*H is in my season 1 review, but now that all of that has been established, season 2 basically just felt like an extension of season 1. And don’t get me wrong, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. I think that while modern viewers demand a lot more from TV shows now, back when M*A*S*H was out, if a show hit with audiences the creators would try to just deliver more of what makes it great.
There isn’t even anything to talk about here in terms of changes that the show had to make with its cast or anything like that, which is something I’ll be able to talk about more in later seasons of the show when characters begin to come and go. Season 2 retains the same core cast, and just delivers more of their exploits together. If I didn’t have an episode guide to reference on the internet, I wouldn’t be able to tell you where season 1 ends and season 2 begins.
If anything, I think that all that needs to be said here is that this consistency is a big part of season 2’s strength. While there are better and worse episodes in both seasons, I think that overall this set of episodes is just as strong as the ones in season 1. A lot can change on a TV show in between seasons, but season 2 of M*A*S*H manages to deliver more of what was so great about the first season.
